Dr. Joann Richardson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also the Director of the Education Component of RAISE 5, an HIV and substance abuse prevention program for African American college students at VCU. Dr. Richardson also serves as the Degree Program Coordinator for the Community Health Education concentration in the BS in Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science and the Track Coordinator for the Health Promotion and Education track of the PhD in Education program. Dr. Richardson’s teaching focuses on Community Health Education, Health Promotion and Health Care Management.  Her research interests target the prevention and early detection and treatment of chronic diseases in minorities (i.e., African-Americans and Hispanics), and other underserved populations with particular emphasis on HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and prostate cancer.
