Faye Belgrave, Ph.D.

I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Virginia and my master's degree in developmental psychology from VCU. My general area of interest is in risk factors (sexual behaviors, substance use, etc.) and protective factors that promote the positive development of African American youth. In the past I have collaborated with colleagues to examine substance abuse among African American youth and young adults. I have facilitated evidenced-based interventions focused on prevention of risky sexual behavior and the strengthening of the parent-child bond. My current work is focused on religiosity as a culturally salient protective factor for African American youth, and the African American Church as a protective context.
